This is Melora Walters' first book of poems and art. Currently she resides in Los Angeles with her husband Alex and two children, Tom and Joanna. She is also an actress. She has appeared in many films including Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Cold Mountain, Cam Archer's Shit Year (which is at the 2010 Canne Film Festival: director's fortnight), and in Taylor Hackford's up coming "Love Ranch", and many tv shows, including playing Wanda on HBO's Big Love.
The Telephone Pole
I drove under it slowly: the shadow of the telephone pole
leaned up against the cliff on the other side of the road,
thinking it might be like a ladder, bad luck, charmed.
I can’t remember numbers when I am counting
to keep track of something, not so good
if the something is dependent on the proper counting,
like prayers that I mumble through, reciting
words that mean nothing anymore,
but transform with the ring of the chimeless bell.
What I want is to turn over the rock
and see the truth, revealed, speaking,
to me, opening his eyes and speaking to me.
