On Queer Homesteading braids memoir, queer history, and homesteading practices to explore the purpose and power of rural queer community building. Set in New York’s Hudson Valley, this prose chapbook challenges the dominant myth of LGBTQ+ urbanity and honors rural queer experiences, connections, and interdependence. These timely and evocative essays ask how fostering relationships with land can support queer people to create home, find belonging, and heal from homophobia’s enduring legacy of exclusion, ultimately inviting new narrative possibilities for self, family, and community.
Lindsey Danis is a queer writer of fiction and essays whose writing has appeared in AFAR, Fodor’s, Condé Nast Traveler, Longreads and Eater. Based in New York’s Hudson Valley, Lindsey enjoys hiking, kayaking, cooking and mushroom foraging.
