Peter Vanderberg’s celestial navigation is a book of both formal range and lyric beauty. In poems that investigate war, fatherhood, home and exile, Vanderberg bears witness to the complexities of our brutal, broken world.  Found language from Navy Guides and the Beaufort Wind Scale shapes poems about danger and loss, poems in which we also often encounter the divine.  Like the wind and the water, which define this book’s landscape, the work of these poems is  “[n]aming the invisible       by how it moves/the visible.”  This is a stunning collection.
