ONE CLEAN FEATHER by Julia Caroline Knowlton

$19.99

Julia Knowlton‘s poems are vulnerable, tough, and brave —sharp as silver, clean and stunning. Beautifully crafted,  they are threaded through with the luminescence of an intelligent mind, a large heart, and much tenderness. There’s grit here and there are moments of joy and transcendence.  Knowlton’s voice is a quiet voice; the struggle both personal and universal–what we do to cover pain, how we respond to sexual violence, how we grieve, and finally how we put it all back together again.

–Carol Potter,  Some Slow Bees/ 2014 winner of the Field Poetry Prize

“A woman like a bird in an oil spill.” In One Clean Feather, poet Julia Caroline Knowlton recounts her journey to cleanse herself of patriarchal violence—sexual onslaught and the brutality of being rendered invisible. In this debut collection, Knowlton invites us to “feel the soil in the mind of her most savage roses” in fierce and indelible imagery.

“This breathtaking collection is threaded through with birds and hope and the color blue, threaded through with a fierce, tender, honesty, with the reminder of how books—both the reading and the writing of them—can save our lives. Julia Knowlton writes ‘If only I could touch you (dear reader)’, and she does. She does.”
–Gayle Brandeis, author of many books, including the Bellwether Prize winning novel The Book of Dead Birds.
