“To read Donald Illich’s The Art of Dissolving is to immerse oneself in page after page of invention and imagination. Not a wasted word and not a prosaic bit anywhere, Donald Illich’s only medium is the poetic. As in Dante, Ovid, the French surrealists, and the Brothers Grimm, reality becomes more vivid in its transformation.  What is our concept of reality but an ill-fitting veneer, he seems to ask, as he rips it off to reveal a startling, more disturbing, truer world.  Here, also, humor and—I don’t know quite how he does it—joy. Donald Illich is one of my very favorite poets.”

–Dana Roeser, author of The Theme of Tonight’s Party Has Been Changed

“Whimsical, surreal, and unexpectedly moving, the poems of Donald Illich tell stories of anxiety and wonder, reconnecting us to our ordinary lives in the most extraordinary of ways.”

–Bruce Snider, author of Paradise, Indiana
