“The ‘blessed moon’ serves as Nadal’s muse in this collection of raw, lyrical reflections on love, living, and coming of age, set against mythological and pastoral landscapes, and Dali-esque mindscapes. The moon illuminates the complexities of being authentic and the peril of voicing that authenticity, as Nadal guides the reader through the journey to actualization and autonomy.”

–Antoinette Brim-Bell,Connecticut State Poet Laureate (2022-2025)

Elaine Nadal’s The Undressing of a Moon shines with symphonic luminosity as poem after poem travels from girlhood to womanhood like the phases of the moon. Generations of women’s traumatized moon shadow are rewritten in the stars as anthem, as song, as powerful moonlight — a gift to the generation of daughters forthcoming. The mastery of Nadal’s braided images transforming before our eyes is matched only by the mastery of her brave new light. I will think of these poems every time I look up into the night sky for inspiration, for life.”

–Sandra Yannone, author of The Glass Studio and Boats for Women

The Undressing of a Moon is a lullaby for the brokenhearted. It addresses the human desire for love while depicting how trauma can sometimes impact relationships. Peeling away the layers of complexity in the human experience, it paints a moon reflecting a light that leads towards a path of discovery, forgiveness, self-love, hope, and fulfillment.
