What Counts by Diana L. Weiss

$14.00

Diana Weiss gives us not the secret life of numbers, but the one going on right before us, had we the wit and wisdom to recognize it. With Weiss’s help, we learn to see with new eyes. Her poems do what irreplaceable, compelling poems so often do: they make us want to write our own poems. After reading What Counts, not only will you never regard numbers in the same way; you will gain a new appreciation of the power of the imagination. Diana Weiss knows what counts.
–Christopher Bursk, author of The Improbable Swervings of Atoms

Diana Weiss‘s poems, written from some eccentric and unexpected vantage points, reminded me of a passage in Emerson’s essay, The Poet, “The path of things is silent. Will they suffer a speaker to go with them? A spy they will not suffer; a lover, a poet, is the transcendency of their own nature, – him [or her] they will suffer.”

Diana Weiss walks beside voiceless things that have stories to tell: the number four, a bullet, my own worn and spattered watercolor box. She has gained their confidence.
