Maria Terrone‘s poetry, which has been published in French and Farsi, has been nominated four times for a Pushcart Prize. Terrone is a native New Yorker who had a career in journalism and and higher education communications. As public relations director at Hunter College, she was encouraged to take her writing seriously by the faculty poets. A few years later, she was publishing her work in Poetry, Crab Orchard Review, The Hudson and other leading journals.

Her poetry ranges widely in subject, drawing inspiration from modern urban life, history, and memory. She is the author of the poetry collections Eye to Eye (Bordighera Press, 2014), A Secret Room in Fall (McGovern Award, Ashland Poetry Press), The Bodies We Were Loaned (The Word Works), and the chapbook American Gothic, Take 2 (Finishing Line Press). Her poetry has also appeared in more than 25 anthologies from publishers including the Alfred A. Knopf Everyman’s Library, CavanKerry Press, The Feminist Press and Beacon Press. In 2012, she was one of 10 Queens-based writers commissioned by the Guggenheim Museum to write prose for its performance project, “stillspotting nyc.”

That project led to more writing of creative nonfiction. Her first book in that genre, At Home in the New World, debuted in November 2018 from Bordighera Press. It contains essays published in Witness, Green Mountains Review, The Common, and other literary media.
