Jessie Ptak‘s poetry is intimate and open where “Yellow is vulnerable. It’s child-like, / like the color of the buttercups placed beneath/ my chin in the summer when I was a kid, / like the faint shadows of their petals reflecting/ off the pale of my skin,” and “The Earth cries…The Earth cries for more love,” and each poem gives insight into life’s challenges. As We Forgive Those is a stunning collection that reveals more with each reading.

As We Forgive Those stumbles over a young mother’s grief, a grief that comes in many forms as a girl and during the early years of motherhood. As old beliefs die, acceptance, clarification of purpose, and perspective fill the spaces that were once left empty.

She received her M.F.A. in writing from Lindenwood University in 2016.
