In an ever-expanding universe we need the longing of the love-sick, as we need poems to hold the heavenly bodies in rotation. Mr. Porter offers up the seasons from exquisite decay to exhilaration, etched in lines, set in song, fixed like a recurrent dream. Buy this book. Put it in your rucksack and travel.
–Dan Coshnear, Author of Separation Anxiety

Like a cosmic conductor, in his work David Porter is able to transform the chaotic world into a series of astonishing and exquisite still life studies. A meditation on the mythic and the modern, long European summers, the night skies of the west, the busy gray streets of the east, and the way love fills our hearts with joy and longing, Ghost Season is a collection that shimmers with unreasonably lustrous language and peerless poetic finesse.
–Alex Green, Author of Emergency Anthems

Ghost Season celebrates the glory in our frailties and the strength of our failures. With language both loud and breathless and quiet and seductive, the musicality of David Porter’s work is filled with loss and longing.
–Ginger Pielage

The poems in Ghost Season were completed between 2000 and 2023. The book is a travelogue, a collection of poems written on a veranda in Nicosia, Cyprus; on a bench in Central Park; in the Vatican Museum, driving west through the Poconos…it’s a personal atlas of the first quarter of the 21st century, one stitched with genuflection to the poetry of Auden, Cavafy, Cummings, Frost, Jack Gilbert and Sandburg. These are eulogies for love lost, hymns to a marriage, highway songs, odes to fatherhood, stories of cities and seas…poems from a ghost season. #travel #fatherhood #marriage #highways #ghosts
