“Interstellartextual, these poems confront the nothingness of space, the vacuousness of pop and poetry culture, and the barrenness of the self’s “desert places.” Morales boldly goes where few poets have gone before and takes her readers along for the ride.”

–Julie Kane

Carolina Morales‘ collection, It Came From Outer Space is a chronicle of the unknown relayed to us by a voice that has delved beyond the established cosmic boundaries of life and language. These poems are delivered through tarot readings, decommissioned sci-fi TV and gravitational tugs at our coat sleeves, reporting on all that shimmers in the most distant vacuums, from darknesses that serve to contrast all that is molten and shifting and human. Written, unapologetically, in the language of poetry, no form is out of bounds or off limits. Morales tinkers with line and stanza to engage with the act of poetry and cultivate a rich conversation with those who’ve preceded her. She writes to the art via the art, aware of all its terms and trapdoors, its myriad shapes and splendours. This is a creative journey woven from an ensemble of ars poetica that self-referentially depict many of poetry’s inherent challenges and triumphs.

It Came From Outer Space by Carolina Morales is a bold adventure of a book.  The poems transport the reader to far away places where we find “a beam me up space station. A confession. A moment of truth.”  Always brilliant, Morales’s poetry engages her readers in this exciting new collection.
