Aldo Leopold wrote, “There are those who can live without wild things and those who cannot”. Nonlinear is a collection of poems that examine the juxtaposition of nature and illness: the healing power of the natural world. Grounded in place and beyond fields, animals and birds punctuate the landscape near the author’s home in Colorado before venturing outside the boundaries of home. In varied forms including ghazal and modern psalm, as well as prose poetry and redactions, the book examines animals from various points of view, and the climate crisis. The arc is the unfolding seasons and the healing body in the quest of survival. Nonlinear healing finds within the confines of earth a language for survival if humans choose to accept it. Even in our modern world of crowds and technology, one can find a worthy sanctuary for respite.
