North of Zenith by Lindy Obach

“In North of Zenith, Lindy Obach maps the Dakotas with a poet’s eye, pinpointing moments of time and terrain with distilled, precise language. She etches its summer’s lushness, harvest heat, and cold sweeps of snow and wind into our memories. Yet ultimately these poems speak best about love and longing, and in doing so, weave tenderness into the pages. Obach’s authentic voice is one you won’t forget.”

“The sun-bleached, muscular, wind-polished poems in Lindy Obach’s North of Zenith compose a resonant love song to landscape, place, history, community, and family. Powerfully anchored by farming roots planted deep in the hardscrabble of rural North Dakota, by the velvet and garlic of a Ukrainian heritage, by the thick braid of her beloved’s hair, North of Zenith is a paean to hard work, wind song, line dancing at the VFW, and a homing instinct leading north up the interstate—straight and predictable as “a 36 inch inseam.” With images honed as gorgeously as North Dakota’s wind-sculpted scoria, these poems reveal this poet’s keen eye for detail and her ear for music, but most of all they reveal the beautiful depths and contours of her capacious and generous heart.”

–Lee Ann Roripaugh, South Dakota Poet Laureate and author of Dandarians
