The Small Lights Of Her Heart by Nora Hikari – NWVS #174

Nora Hikari is well on her way to being more than just the voice of a generation, but to being an explosive dynamo of unapologetically gay art as we know it. Hikari’s intricately and intimately in-your-face writing breaks down poetic conventions to scream something new and better at the top of her beautiful lungs. Nora’s writing is equal parts teeth and hope, a balm and a brightness, revolution and a battle cry.”
–Sarah Clark, Editor in Chief of Anomaly, Beestung, and ALOCASIA, and co-editor of The Queer Movement Anthology and the Bettering American Poetry series.

The Small Lights Of Her Hearti s a vision of a surreal transsexuality, an existence both mystical and visceral, bound both in blood and in prayer. Its poems are the numbered hopes and tears of a young trans woman desperate to exist in this world. Through monster girl rituals, transpassing subreddits, lesbian second dates, and a coming-out letter as a bird, The Small Lights Of Her Hearttakes the reader through the rhythmic life cycle of trans hope and despair. This chap is offering you her gentlest glimmers, her smallest lights. Will you accept them?
