“If I were needing care in a hospital or from a nurse, James Gage would provide the touch in his poems. There are hard realities (including war, lost love, death in the family) that Gage touches like a hospice worker; not to end life, but to begin it anew, in the living and engaged mind, as the poet always does.”
–Duncan Nichols, award-winning playwright, poet, and president of Vermont Peace Anti-War Coalition

True If Not Destroyed… is a cautionary tale told eloquently and anecdotally, flagging the dangers of indifference, and the sway of lost worlds. The arrows in Jamie’s quiver fly towards mending, not war. But his words do pierce – into the truth of things, and into the heart of what matters. A compassionate wake up call, for those of us who wish to stop sleeping.”
–Kristina Stykos, award-winning poet, songwriter, and music producer

True If Not Destroyed

by James Gage

Paper

The follow-up to his award-winning chapbook “True If Destroyed” from Finishing Line Press (2016), “True If Not Destroyed” is a snapshot of the American experience in the first quarter of the 21st century, examined through the author’s own observations and desires. Gage’s pursuit of the truth in a commercial media landscape rife with falsehoods is further challenged by revelations that our  culture has often been sabotaged by its own leaders. Balanced by personal poems that mine themes of love and lust, family and parenting, “True If Not Destroyed” is the hope of one American to help forge a better future for our country while celebrating all aspects of its past.

Jamie Gage is an anti-war poet and songwriter whose work has been published in dozens of periodicals and literary journals including Main Street Rag, Inkwell, Wordrunner, Sand Hills, Out of Line, Mountain Gazette, Oyster River Pages, and others. His first book of poems True If Destroyed (2016) is available from Finishing Line Press, and his debut EP of original music, Earth Turns (2017) is available at Thunder Ridge Records, iTunes & other streaming channels.
